John Joyce
American; Chicagoan; ex Marine Corps Officer; Chicago Fire Dept Lieutenant
Serving in the USAF in Afghanistan and Iraq

Civilian Military Operations Center (CMOC) medical clinic is myself and buddy from my reserve base 440th from Milwaukee.  The Iraqi girl is Sarah who works at the clinic as an interpreter. The gentleman is named Hussein. Hussein paid dearly for his association with this clinic because insurgents executed his oldest son as a revenge killing when they were not able to get him.    John at Sather Air Base with some appreciative Iraqi children.

Gary Sinise, Chicago's very own, stopped by Al Dhafra Air Base. He is a very big supporter of our troops and is on the USO circuit traveling in the area.He is a die hard Cubs fan!

Sharing some MRE's for the little sheep herding kids. Sometimes they find unexploded ordnance out in the fields and turn them over to our EOD guys for disposal. Not much for these sheep to eat  Gave this fire dept. coin to this sheep herding Iraqi kid and really made his day More Iraqi kids These guys provide security and firefighting for the northern pipeline that runs thru Kirkuk and northward. We give them classes in CPR and firefighting. They are mostly Kurds and good people and happy that Sadaam is gone.

In the field with EOD. John provides fire suppression support if anything goes wrong with their weekly blow up of old ordnance. Couple new toys!

111 degrees this day.

Catholic service in a tent on base. Iraqi kids playing outside the wire near John's Fire Dept. Note the number of satellite dishes, previously banned before America freed Iraq. Basketball team from the Fire Dept at Kirkuk. The gym is an old Iraqi gym. At near 50 years old John still runs the court!

Can you believe there are two Joyce's at this base! John ran into this guy at a Sunday service. He spent 7 years in the Irish army and then somehow made it to the states and continues to serve with the US Army.   Old Glory being raised at the firehouse here. We can not keep it up since we are a liberating force. So we raise it to provide dignity and respect then lower it all at the same time.
